Buloke Shire appoints new CEO
THE Buloke Shire Council has officially appointed Daniel McLoughlan as its new chief executive, following a resolution at the October Ordinary Meeting held on Wednesday, October 15.

Mr McLoughlan has served as interim CEO since September 2025.
“His permanent appointment recognises his proven capability, deep community ties and unwavering commitment to the Buloke region,” Buloke Shire Council mayor Alan Getley said.
A Birchip local, Mr McLoughlan returned to the district in 2012 and, after six years leading the family business, dedicated his career to public service within the shire.
He said it was a privilege to serve the Buloke community.
“I am excited by the opportunity to lead a high-performing, engaged team in a community I know well and care deeply about,” Mr McLoughlan said.
“While broader government narratives may suggest our communities are fading, I believe Buloke’s future is bright.
"With strong leadership, strategic partnerships, and community collaboration, we can continue to build a resilient and thriving region.”
Throughout his time with the council, Mr McLoughlan has held key leadership positions, including Director of Infrastructure and Delivery, Senior Manager of Assets, and Flood Recovery Manager during the October 2022 flood event.
“Daniel brings an entrepreneurial mindset grounded in practical experience and a strong focus on delivering real value through innovation and reform,” Cr Getley said.
His deep understanding of the community played a crucial role in coordinating the Shire’s recovery efforts.
Outside his council duties, Mr McLoughlan remains actively involved in community life through the Birchip Forum and as a long-time supporter of the Birchip-Watchem Bulls Football Club, where he volunteers as match day secretary.
“Council is very pleased to appoint Daniel,” Cr Getley added.
“We believe he has demonstrated authentic leadership, sound judgment during his Council tenure, as well as an enduring passion for our communities.
“His local knowledge and ability to engage with staff and residents make him an outstanding choice to lead Buloke into the future.”
