But when his dad was diagnosed recently with the disease, he decided it was time to face the scissors, and so, this Friday, Mr Penrose will bid farewell to the mane he admits he has become fond of.

A number two back and sides kind of man usually, Mr Penrose said his current hairstyle is different from the norm, and has taken some getting used to.

"It's going to be a shock to the system," Mr Penrose said, adding his hair is currently about 40cm long.

"I'm keen to see what it looks like, because I haven't seen myself (with hair that's short) for quite a while."

While his hair will be made into wigs, the funds he is raising will provide financial assistance to families in need and support pediatric oncology hospitals across the country.

Mr Penrose's will also donate a portion of the fundraising to The Royal Flying Doctors, at his dad's request.

"They help the Bush Nursing Centre in Harrow, which dad has a lot to do with," Mr Penrose explained.

Donations can be made to Kids with Cancer by visiting https://fundraise.kidswithcancer.org.au/s/9277/9340/s or to The Royal Flying Doctors by visiting https://doyourthing.rfdsvic.com.au/caneron-penrose.

Mr Penrose invites the community to witness his transformation at the Exchange Hotel this Friday, with the big chop taking place between 7.30-8pm.
