FLASHBACK: February 19 1976
If Hopetoun people are prepared to donate $5000 towards the new primary school they will get a building worth in excess of $750,000.

At a meeting last Monday a work between Hopetoun Primary School steering committee and the Regional Director of Education, Mr Jack Bishop, with architects Neil Anderson and Rod Thomas, the sketch plans for the new school were inspected and approved.
It is anticipated that tenders will be called by the Public Works Department in June or July this year.
The proposed school will be unique in Victoria in that it will be the first ever primary school to have had a say in the designing of the school.
It will therefore largely be a school designed by local people, in Hopetoun township, for local children.
When the steering committee initially indicated they were willing to raise $5000 towards the cost of a full-size library, the Public Works Department showed their appreciation for the cooperation by themselves giving increased cooperation.
Records go at swim sports
Hopetoun High School inter-house swimming sports were held at the local swimming pool on Wednesday, February 18, when 12 new records were smashed.
Most of the records broken were long-standing, and six of the records were established by four of the final champions.
At the conclusion of events, Lowan House was once again victorious and the house provided four of the six champions.
Champion swimmers were junior girls Sally Wellington, junior boys Stephen Fellows, intermediate girls Sally Brymer, intermediate boys Peter Anderson, senior girls Wendy Brymer, and senior boys Ross Anderson.
